Overview

The Moderated Chat feature is a way to allow text conversations to happen alongside your Live Events providing your users with a richer experience, contextual information, and better engagment with your content.

Moderated Chat can be thought of as a "Gated" discussion which allows End-users to send Moderators chat messages and Moderators (or, Mods) can either approve or reject those messages for public consumption. There are three methods of communication between Stream Viewers (end-users) and Chat Moderators (Yourself or someone within your Organization):

  • Sending Public Message with Text, Attachments, and Hyperlinks
  • Sending Direct Messages between Users and Mmoderators
  • Publishing incoming Chat messages with or without response
  • Generating and Publishing interactive Polls for Users to engage with

Gotcha:
Moderated Chat is a by-event occurrence so each time you want to associate a Moderated Chat with an event you must do so on each Event individually.

Getting Started

There are four steps to establishing and navigating to Moderated Chat:

  • Assigning "Moderated Chat" to an Event
  • Adding Moderators to the Chat
  • Navigating to the Chat Admin Application (either by the auto-generated email or using the link within the Invintus Dashboard)
  • Logging in

Gotcha:
Getting Chat setup on an Event requires first that your Event has been Created:
https://controlcenter.invintusmedia.com/events/create

If it already exists you need to find it within the Events List view:
https://controlcenter.invintusmedia.com/events

Assigning "Moderated Chat" to an Event

Once you've found your Event, you will see a "Live Chat" label within the general Event Overview.

Adding Moderators to the Chat

Initially, the Event will show that your Live Chat will read "None." In order to assign Moderated Chat to it you will have to:

  • Click the Pencil
  • Select the Moderated Chat radio button
  • Click Add Moderator and enter the Moderator's Name and Email address
  • Click "Save Moderator"

You also may have noticed that there are three Text Fields within the Chat Moderation Modal (Heading text, Login message, Standby message). These are what an End User will see when Logging into the Player Chat view.

Once you have Saved the Moderator, an Automated Email will be sent out that will provide the Moderator with a direct link to the Chat Admin Interface.

There are two ways to get to the Chat Admin panel:

  • Using the Link provided in the Auto-generated email
  • Clicking on the Login/Link icon next to the "Moderated" label in the Events List
  • Directly going to https://chatadmin.invintus.com/

Admin Interface

The Admin Interface is broken up into two Three sections:

  • Nav Bar and Global Actions
  • Chat Views: Visitors, Moderators, and Polls
  • Chat Interface

Nav Bar

The Nav bar will show you your User Name and provides a Dropdown of general actions you can perform:

  • Logout
  • Start/Stop Chat
  • Show Player (Live Stream)
  • Change Name
  • Save Chat (Export as CSV)

Gotcha:
By default, all new Chat Sessions are offline. Chat Moderators need to start the Session by using the Menu dropdown in the Nav Bar and click "Start Chat."

Chat Views

There are three Views to bring into the Chat Interface:

  • Visitors: This will list all currently logged-in Visitors (End-users) viewing your Event through the Embedded Player
  • Moderators: Lists all currently registered Moderators and their Login Status (Online/Offline)
  • Polls: This will show "Create Poll" and list all existing Polls created for your Event

Chat Interface

This is where you'll do all of your Messaging (Public and Private).

Because our Chat interface allows you to send messages Publicly and Privately, there are a few ways to chat.

  • Public Chat: All chat messages in the Public Chat will be sent to your Logged in Visitors. To use this you click "Visitors" and then "Posted Messages"
  • Private Chat (Direct Message): This is a one-to-one chat between yourself and a specific Visitor. To get to this view you'd click "Visitors" then the name of the Visitor you wish to Direct Message.
  • Moderator Chat: This is an Internal Chat between Moderators and is never publicly viewable. To access this you'd click "Moderators" then click "Group Messages".

Note:
Moderators can also privately Direct Message each other by selecting "Moderators" and then clicking on the name of the Moderator you choose to chat with.

Polls

Polls allow you to generate an interactive voting widget that will automatically embed into your Chat timeline when it's created.

Polls have three main options:

  • Graph Type: Either Horizontal or Vertical, this refers to the orientation of the Bar Graph - justified to the bottom with values increasing Upward or justified to the left with values increasing to the Left
  • Label: This will be the label of the Poll
  • Options: These are what will be available to be Voted on and are a single Text Field. You can assign them colours of your choosing or click "Randomize Colors" to auto-generate colors. For Display purposes, it's best to keep Option text as short as possible.

Note:
In order to Submit a poll to the chat you must accompany it with a Chat Message and Click "Create Poll"

Editing and Deleting Existing Polls

You can Remove Existing Polls from the Chat by selecting "Polls" from the Chat Views pane, clicking on the Poll to be removed, and selecting either Edit or Delete from the Menu button on the far left of the poll.

Advisory:
Deleting a Poll will remove all Votes submitted to it and the Votes cannot be recovered.
