Overview

The Video Editor is our in-browser solution to quick and easy Video Editing which allows you to Trim, Rearrange, and Stitch different assets together.

All Clip elements can be Dragged-and-Dropped anywhere to or within the timeline to Add them or Rearrange their order.

When you are working with the Video Editor, there are a few things to note:

  • All Video Edits done in the Browser don't affect any existing Media Asset
  • All Video Edits committed create a brand new Asset while retaining all of the old/current Media
  • You can only bring Non-published Events into the Editor. If you need to edit a published video you will first have to Unpublish it to Edit it.

Glossary / Terminology

  • Timeline: The Timeline, laid out left-to-right, is where you arrange your clips in chronological.
  • Playhead: the Playhead is the red handled bar in the Timeline showing you the position of Video playback.
  • Clip or Asset: These terms are interchangeable and represent your Media in rectangular blocks.
  • Trim, or Cut: These terms are interchangeable and refer to the action of splitting a media asset into two where the Playhead is.
  • an "Edit": An Edit is what we refer to as being the resulting Asset after you click "Submit Edit"
  • Clip Time vs. Total Time: Each Asset has it's own Duration (Clip Time) whereas the Edit you generate has a Sum total duration (Total Time) of all Clips in the Timeline.

Visual Layout of the Video Editor

The Video Editor is comprised of six distinct sections.

Video Editor

1. Title Bar

The title Bar contains the Event's title (which is also a link back to the Event), the Event's ID, and a link to the Event's Agenda Log on the far right.

2. Media Asset Listing

The Asset Listing shows you all your Video media assets as well as two "Layout" mode button which will toggle between a Top-down List View (default) and a Grid view.

3. Video Preview

The Video Preview will show you the current media where the Playhead is at within the Timeline.

Note:

Directly under the player on the right side is the Total Time. This reflects the Sum total of time of all clips within the timeline.

4. Player and Clipping Controls

There are two sets of controls in the same row which appear on the bottom left of the player. Describing them from Left to Right:

Player Controls

  • Cut/Trim icon
  • Undo/Redo (these will undo the last action you took in the timeline such as a Rearrange or a Trim)
  • Seek backward by 30 seconds << and seek backward by 1 second <
  • Play
  • Seek forward by 30 seconds >> and seek forward by 1 second >

5. The Media Timeline, and Zoom controls, and Committing an Edit

The Timeline is broken up, top-to-bottom, into six different sections:

  • Timecodes: these represent the Total Time of the Edit and increment at varrying intervals as you zoom in/zoom out.
  • Breaks: If you've paused your Live Event at any time the Breaks will show in Orange, with an In position, an orange bar spanning the duration of the break, and a Break out.
  • Clip Timeline/Arranger: This is where your Clips will go: you can drag them in directly here or click the + symbol from the Media Asset Listing which will append them to the Timeline.
  • Playhead: This shows you where you are in a clip with a vertical red line. At the bottom is a Red rectangle which you can drag to seek manually through a Clip.
  • Clip Timeline Scrollbar: As you add more and more Clips into the Timeline (or have a very long video asset) you may need to scroll horizontally to see everything. You can drag the Scrollbar OR use Shift + Scroll to scroll.
  • Zoom Controls This is what you use to magnify or zoom out the Timeline by dragging it right or left respectively.
